December 15-17, 2008
Dear Managers!
It was Lao-tsu who said: «He who split the world into parts no longer understands the power of both divine and human laws».
«The development of the country is 80% dependant not on its natural resources, not on its geographical position and not on quality of labor. Instead it depends on management». These words of one of the founders of modern management – P. Drucker – reflect everything like a drop of water: meaning, problems and contradictions of what different people call management in different situations. If this expression is not questionable than the notion “management quality” used by Drucker needs to be either clarified or intuitively understood.
We got used so much to solve problems “in parts”, analyze situations based on separate aspects that this approach seems to be an absolute Good, essential attribute of scientific and objective approach. Is it always good to scrutinize the problem under different angles and go deep into detail? The problem is that as a result of this “partitioning” approach we need to deal with incomplete, fractional vision of the phenomenon in question. Yes, we have a set of snapshots and viewpoints from different angles. The question is how all these snapshots and perspective relate. In order to perceive the nature of the problem, imagine that you are trying to put together a mosaic, taking separate parts out of the box, but not having the whole picture in our head. This topic will be highlighted by PhD in education Derek Cabrera and Director of “Agro-Soyuz” Corporation Vladimir Khorishko.Derek works at Cornell University (USA), he is the founder and CEO of ThinkWorks, a company that develops system thinking skills through workshops and seminars for educators, parents and organizational leaders. In addition he holds a patent for the revolutionary thinking method that underlies the design of ThinkBlocks, an educational tool that teaches system thinking skills to children and adults.
If we say the words of Drucker in a different way, we can state that the success of any system that consists of people is predetermined by a sort of philosophical category of science and art that is related to something or determined something that is called organizational system. Understanding what “management” and “system” are as well as “processes” and “elements” that are related to them, means of processes, systems and management implementation is a difficult task. This and many other issues will be highlighted by Andrey Tyslenko (Russia), who is a consultant in management systems perfection, the owner of several businesses, the manager of one of the fields of expert and consultation Board under the Foreman of the State Duma of Russian Federation, the teacher of the high school of business at Moscow State University under MBA program.
Any of us acts in difference organizations simultaneously or in sequence. We are born in them, live and die, study and work, get married, get medical assistance and have rest. Efficiency of an organization is far more higher than that of a family, nation or settlement. It is the efficiency that is being valued by businessmen, politicians and all active citizens. That is why the number, difference and sizes of organizations are growing. Some of them are now embracing the whole World. We are in common organizational networks where everybody is connected with everybody either by a necessity or by our wish. If you pull or cut one thread, many others will start moving. This topic will be highlighted by Prigozhin Arkadiy – professor, doctor of philosophy, Director of managerial consulting center of National economy Academy under the Government of Russian Federation, President of Association of consultants on management and organization development.
